Brief & Objectives

Kurt Safari approached Ruby Digital for SEO Services, specifically services to assist in increasing keyword rankings for priority keywords currently ranking on their website, as well as building up their keyword portfolio. The keywords they wanted to improve on were also targeting 8 different countries. This was done through the tactical use of backlinks for the priority keywords and content optimisation for pages ranking for these keywords.

Challenges

We faced 3 main challenges in the case of Kurt Safari. First, was the restriction on pages, then the multisite multi-language plugin and, thirdly, the multiple countries that needed to be targeted.

The restriction on pages stopped us from fully optimising the entirety of the website, and it limited our focus to only the pages not included in the restriction. This halted us from connecting the newly optimised pages with other pages that required more optimisation in order to rank better.

The multisite multi-language plugin was used to translate the content placed on the US website to the respective language of the various other countries on the other version of the site (when a user changes the region). This plugin did bring complications, such as duplicated content, as well as restrictions to the change of content, due to content only allowing to be changed on the US version of the page.

The challenge that came from targeting 8 countries was that only 3 out of the 8 had English as their main language. This is relevant as we do not work with foreign languages and, hence, restricted us from fully being able to individually optimise the content in foreign languages. Though the previously mentioned multisite plugin translated the English versions of the site to the foreign languages, we were not able to fully understand whether the content was being translated correctly.

Our Solution

When it came to the restrictions on the pages, we focused all our efforts on the pages that were not affected by the restrictions and optimised them. Within the optimisation process, we did link to pages within the restricted section in order to make subtle improvements in their optimisation.

Regarding the multisite multi-language plugin, we suggested another plugin that worked more effectively in terms of translating content correctly and using less server resources. The new plugin performed better than the previous one and allowed for more optimisations to take place, as well as translated English to the foreign languages more accurately and independently.

The targeting keywords for the 8 countries was a bit of a challenge, but which we are proud to have overcome. We did extensive keyword research on keywords that appeared in all 8 countries and cross referenced them to ensure that a keyword within an English speaking country was also ranking and somewhat sought after by non-English speaking country. This was successful since the keywords were improving in all countries.
